Description of the Castle

A Castle at the Heart of History
Vollore Castle, dating from the 12th, 14th and 16th centuries, is a living residence of the descendants of the La Fayette family. It offers a spectacular site and a remarkable panorama of the region.

The Park and the Decoration
The château is surrounded by a terraced park, where nature and history intertwine. Inside, you will discover spacious and elegantly decorated apartments, reflecting its rich past. The collection of memorabilia from the Lafayette family and the American Revolutionary War further enhances the visitor experience.

The Castle Spaces

• The Chatelet : 19th century restoration, carried out by the architect René Moreau.
• The West Façade : On the right, you will see the 12th century keep, a symbol of the castle's medieval architecture.

The Interior Rooms

• The Entrance Hall : With its semicircular arched ceiling and Volvic stone flooring, this entrance hall reveals 16th and 17th-century furnishings. A fireplace plaque displays the Montmorin coat of arms.

• The Old Guard Rooms : These 14th-century rooms are now used for concerts, exhibitions, and receptions. In a niche next to the fireplace, a statue of Saint Maurice, patron saint of the parish of Vollore, welcomes you.

• The Gallery : Featuring a Volvic stone fireplace, the gallery displays Louis XV and Louis XVI furniture.

• The Red Salon (or "La Fayette" Salon) : This salon houses a precious collection of memorabilia belonging to General Lafayette. It is furnished with mahogany pieces dating from the Louis XVI, Empire, and Restoration periods.

• The Grand Salon : A spacious and sumptuous place to discover the elegance of the castle.

• The Blue Room (or "Summer" Room) : This charming apartment, dedicated to Marie-Louise de Pusy La Fayette, features a set of Louis XVI style furniture designed by René Moreau at the end of the 19th century. You can also admire a painting by Louise Abbéma.
