The Royal Abbey of Chaalis , nestled in a bucolic setting, has long captivated artists and writers, notably Gérard de Nerval , who loved to stroll there with Sylvie. Its romantic landscape , dotted with historical remains and manicured gardens, makes it a place imbued with poetry and serenity.
An exceptional artistic and natural heritage
In the park, the abbey chapel , adorned with frescoes from the Fontainebleau school , houses the tomb of Nélie Jacquemart-André , a great art collector and patron of the estate.
Near the castle, the rose garden , a veritable haven of greenery, is protected behind an imposing 15th-century crenellated wall . Originally conceived as a place for relaxation and contemplation, this enclosed space of 3,500 m² has recently been restored to its former glory.

Royal Abbey of Chaalis
Fontaine-Chaalis The Royal Abbey of Chaalis, with its 1,000-hectare estate, occupies a privileged position north of Paris, within the vast semicircle of the great forests of northern Île-de-France and the borders of Picardy. This semicircle, stretching from the forest of Villers-Cotterêts, passes through the forests of Compiègne (formerly Cuise) and Laigue, those of Chantilly and Ermenonville, and ends with the forests of Halatte and Hez.
The abbey comprises a 12th-century abbey, a 13th-century chapel adorned with Renaissance frescoes, and an 18th-century château housing the Jacquemart-André collections, all within a 30-hectare listed park.
The Rose Festival takes place in June.
