Our history
The Royal Abbey of Chaalis, with its 1,000-hectare estate, occupies a privileged position north of Paris, within the vast semicircle of the great forests of northern Île-de-France and the borders of Picardy. This semicircle, stretching from the forest of Villers-Cotterêts, passes through the forests of Compiègne (formerly Cuise) and Laigue, those of Chantilly and Ermenonville, and ends with the forests of Halatte and Hez.
The abbey comprises a 12th-century abbey, a 13th-century chapel adorned with Renaissance frescoes, and an 18th-century château housing the Jacquemart-André collections, all within a 30-hectare listed park.
The Rose Festival takes place in June.
