The Royal Abbey of Chaalis, owned by Nélie Jacquemart-André between 1902 and 1912, testifies to her passion for art and collecting. She bequeathed the estate to the Institut de France, which today preserves the evidence of her eclectic taste.
The castle , formerly a wing of the cloister designed by the architect Jean Aubert in the 18th century, houses an impressive collection of furniture, paintings and works of art, ranging from Antiquity to the Empire.

The ground floor: The grand gallery is adorned with Gothic and Renaissance chests, as well as busts sculpted by masters such as Gagini, Coysevox, and Pajou. This gallery provides access to the elegant reception rooms.

The library: A place steeped in the intellectual atmosphere of the time, offering a vast literary collection.

On the first floor: The gallery, dedicated to 15th-century paintings and Renaissance furniture, opens onto the former monks' cells, transformed into rooms decorated with 18th-century or Empire-style modern furniture. Tapestries and a collection of wood carvings from Saint Lucia complete this rich ensemble.

Madame André's private apartment: Accessible at the top of the grand staircase, this space reflects Nélie Jacquemart-André's eclectic taste, with a predominance of portraits. The Eagle Room , decorated in the Empire style, and Madame André's bedroom , decorated in the 18th century style, offer an immersion into the splendor of the era.

The bathroom: Exquisitely refined, it opens onto a boudoir adorned with woodwork, Beauvais tapestries and numerous decorative objects, creating an intimate and elegant atmosphere.

Opening Hours and Prices
Castle-museum, park, rose garden, ruins of the abbey church and chapel
From April 1st to September 30th, the estate is open every day from 10am to 6pm.
From October 1st to March 31st, the estate is open on weekends and during school holidays, from 10am to 5pm.

Royal Abbey of Chaalis
Fontaine-Chaalis The Royal Abbey of Chaalis, with its 1,000-hectare estate, occupies a privileged position north of Paris, within the vast semicircle of the great forests of northern Île-de-France and the borders of Picardy. This semicircle, stretching from the forest of Villers-Cotterêts, passes through the forests of Compiègne (formerly Cuise) and Laigue, those of Chantilly and Ermenonville, and ends with the forests of Halatte and Hez.
The abbey comprises a 12th-century abbey, a 13th-century chapel adorned with Renaissance frescoes, and an 18th-century château housing the Jacquemart-André collections, all within a 30-hectare listed park.
The Rose Festival takes place in June.
