Description of the gardens:

The gardens of Château de La Ballue are a true masterpiece, offering spectacular views over the valley. The Italianate Mannerist garden , designed by architect Paul Maymont, transports you to a verdant world where thirteen garden rooms (a grove, a green theater, a labyrinth) are revealed at every turn. The yew maze , imposing at 2.5 meters high, is one of the highlights of this first section of the garden.

Further on, François-Hébert Stevens ' French-style garden blends seamlessly with the south façade of the Renaissance château. There, topiary and contemporary sculptures engage in a harmonious dialogue, offering a unique contrast between tradition and modernity. This garden, listed as a Historic Monument and designated a Remarkable Garden, also hosts sculpture exhibitions and concerts.

The formal garden , situated on the 17th-century terraces, unfolds across a sweeping, undulating landscape, while the wisteria avenue elegantly separates the two gardens. This avenue, lined with 22 wisteria vines supported by a double row of yew columns, is a must-see for strolling, adorned with large spiral topiary.

The Château de La Ballue is a place where the art of gardens and the beauty of the landscape meet, offering an unforgettable experience for lovers of nature and history.
