Domaine départemental de Chamarande
Chamarande Construit en 1654 par l'architecte Nicolas de l'Espine pour Pierre Mérault, secrétaire conseiller du Roi, le château de Chamarande est le parfait exemple d'une architecture de style Louis XIII privilégiant la couleur des matériaux à l'ornementation sculptée.
En 1682, le domaine est acheté par la famille d'Ornaison Talaru (prmeier valet de chambre sous Louis XIV) qui le conserve jusqu'en 1850. A partir de 1737, le parc (98 hectares, aujourd'hui d'aspect romantique) est agrandi par l'architecte Contant d'Ivry. On découvre encore un buffet d'eau, une orangerie ou un très original jeu de l'oie. L'ajout d'une pièce d'eau dans les années 1780 pourrait être l'oeuvre du peintre paysagiste Hubert Robert.
Acheté en 1978 par le Conseil général de l'Essonne, le site est classé depuis 1981 aux titres des monuments historiques et des sites.
De 1994 à 1999, une nouvelle période de travaux suit une courte période d'abandon. Le paysagiste Jacques Sgard s'efforce de mettre en avant le legs de chaque époque.
Les vastes peupleraies sont supprimées, des perspectives retrouvées, les abords de plusieurs bâtiments sont aménagés dans un but pratique (Orangerie) ou décoratif (Pavillon belvédère).
Conscient que le parc est désormais un lieu ouvert et tourné vers le public, de nouvelles allées de promenade sont tracées, notamment autour de la pièce d'eau. Le jeu de l'oie est mis en valeur, en partie recréé suivant le plan de Contant d'Ivry (1740).
Depuis, l'activité est dense : expositions d'art contemporain, concerts, spectacles de danses, cinéma de plein art ou théâtre. Les communs du château sont depuis 1999 le siège des Archives départementales de l'Essonne.
