Description of the castle:
This museum, housed in an elegant 19th-century residence, immerses you in the world of Balzac. You'll discover the interior furnished and decorated exactly as it was during the writer's lifetime. Among the must-see rooms is Balzac's bedroom , which offers a glimpse into the author's daily life, including his working habits and inspirations. A rewarding visit for literature and history enthusiasts.
For it was in the heart of Touraine, at the Château de Saché, that Balzac stayed from 1825 to 1848. Honoré de Balzac made about ten visits to Jean Margonne, the owner of the estate. The Château de Saché was one of Honoré de Balzac's favorite places of inspiration. In the small room reserved for him, the writer found the silence and austerity that, far from the turmoil of Parisian life and his financial worries, allowed him to work twelve to sixteen hours a day. Père Goriot, Louis Lambert, César Birotteau, and Lost Illusions were partly written here. Saché also served as inspiration for Balzac, who set his novel The Lily of the Valley in the idyllic setting of the Indre Valley.
