Tours of Chateau Royal de Blois
A must-see in Blois. What to see and do at the Royal Chateau of Blois
The Royal Château of Blois, a place of power and witness to the history of France, invites you to discover its different architectural periods and its central role in the French Renaissance.
The François I Wing, famous for its courtyard façade and monumental staircase, is one of the greatest architectural achievements of the French Renaissance. The façade's ornamentation, inspired by Italy, is characterized by a network of horizontal moldings and pilasters framing the windows. The polygonal staircase offers a striking contrast between the strength of its buttresses and the lightness of its loggias, allowing courtiers to observe the festivities and be observed themselves.
The Louis XII Wing displays Gothic influences while incorporating the principles of a new Italian-inspired lifestyle. The more open façade and the gallery with its sculpted candelabra pillars create a more airy aesthetic. The grand staircase, located in a square tower, is decorated with a sculpted panel depicting a crowned porcupine, an emblem chosen by Louis XII to symbolize the capacity for self-defense.
The King's and Queen's Chambers bear witness to the royal splendor of the era. These rooms are decorated with furniture and architectural elements characteristic of the period, offering a glimpse into daily life at the Royal French court.

Royal Castle of Blois
A favorite residence of the Kings of France during the Renaissance, the Royal Château of Blois is a true architectural and historical synthesis of the Loire Valley châteaux. Its four wings, each in a different style, and its monumental staircase, all arranged around a single courtyard, offer a stunning panorama of French architecture from the Middle Ages to the Classical period.
A complete renovation of the visitor experience and a new presentation allow visitors to immerse themselves in Renaissance court life: the royal apartments showcase magnificent restored polychrome decorations, and the furniture and paintings on display evoke daily life at court and the dynamics of power during the Renaissance. The private study of Francis I, as well as the royal chambers of Catherine de Medici and Henry III, where the Duke of Guise was assassinated in 1588, are steeped in the major events of French history.
