Description

Fontariol Castle – Cultural Visits

The work carried out by the Pince family is based on a documentary and historical approach, restoring Fontariol to its original architectural features. It highlights the historical evolution of the fortified house and its outbuildings up to the 18th century. This work has been recognized with numerous awards. The Château de Fontariol, including its outbuildings, was listed as a Historic Monument in its entirety in 2010. Since its acquisition in 2017, Fontariol has undergone extensive restoration and renovation work, with the aim of restoring the château to its residential function and improving public access. The enclosed courtyard, now restored, offers an ideal setting for organizing open-air performances, particularly in terms of acoustics and audience capacity.

Fontariol Castle

Le Theil

This 15th-century castle offers a unique experience by retracing life in bygone eras through commentary that explains the customs of the past: grooming, clothing, table manners, sexuality, cooking, and the use of weapons. Rare objects illustrate these points (weapons, Renaissance forks, traditional clothing, cookware, etc.). Often medieval expressions ("aller à plume," François Villon) and "faire la tostée" transport visitors to an unfamiliar world or explain certain behaviors (conjugal duties, etc.). A fine collection of locks and ironwork, including Roman pieces, explores the symbolism of the locksmiths' guild. Finally, candlelit evening tours offer visitors a historical escape. A small castle, but a grand experience!
