Visit to Lyautey Castle and Activity Center
Château Lyautey , a place steeped in history and culture, invites you to discover its heritage and delve into the history of General Lyautey through an enriching guided tour.
Marshal Lyautey settled in Thorey, a small, typically Lorraine village of 200 inhabitants at the time. There, he built a house as an extension of a manor house he had inherited from an aunt, following the burning of his château in Crévic by German troops at the beginning of the First World War. Deeply rooted in Lorraine and viscerally attached to everything that connects generations, the word "house," referring to the family home, held an almost mystical connotation for him. It preserved the soul of those who had lived there; it was the repository of accumulated memories and cherished, familiar objects. As a military man, it was also his home base, a place where he could come to recharge. The work, begun in 1920, was completed in 1924. Outside, he had landscaped the park, bordered by the Brénon stream, as it appears today, by laying out pathways, creating flowerbeds, planting new species, digging a pond, and highlighting the statues of the Four Seasons by Guibal, which had survived the Crévic disaster. Marshal Lyautey would take up permanent residence there upon his return from Morocco in November 1925 .
Château Lyautey offers an immersive visit where you can discover the fascinating history of this historic site. Its activity center provides a cultural and educational experience, perfect for an outing with family or friends.
