The Herb Garden
Located near Dame Hélène's Rose Garden , this medieval-inspired garden is laid out in small squares, following a geometric checkerboard pattern. It showcases a collection of plants with diverse uses: medicinal, dyeing, aromatic, and textile. A stroll through these plots reveals how these plants have been part of people's daily lives throughout the centuries.
The Rose Garden, a labyrinth of scents
Established in 2003 and covering 3,200 square meters, the Rose Garden of Dame Hélène is an invitation to contemplation. It boasts over 400 varieties of old and modern roses , blooming from June to September, with peak flowering around mid-June. Its design is inspired by medieval architecture, with geometric flowerbeds , pergolas reminiscent of castle towers, and cross-shaped basins evoking the heraldic themes of the period. This rose garden is lovingly tended throughout the week by a dedicated gardener.
A unique fern collection
Created in 2007, this collection showcases a plant often overlooked by the general public. Nearly 50 varieties of ferns , classified by family, are displayed in a specially designed area of the park. These include tree ferns , varieties with silvery leaves , as well as rare species with striking shapes and colors.
An English-style wooded park
From the 17th century onwards, when the fortress became a family residence, a formal French garden was laid out. It was transformed in the 18th century into an English landscape park , following the fashion of the time. Today, this park is home to several remarkable trees, some of which are several centuries old.
- A sequoia tree brought back from the United States by a companion of Lafayette.
- An American black walnut tree of impressive dimensions.
- A white mulberry tree from China , the only representative of its species north of the Loire.
A living heritage
Through its gardens, rose garden and wooded park, the Château Fort de Rambures offers visitors an immersion in a landscape shaped over the centuries, where history dialogues with nature in perfect balance.

On the coastal road, we find ourselves in the Vimeu region. The fortified castle of Rambures, listed as a Historical Monument since 1840 and featured in "France Miniature," presents, in its verdant setting, a unique ensemble comprising a furnished 15th-century feudal fortress, 17th- and 18th-century outbuildings, an interior layout of the castle reflecting the successive eras experienced by the family who built and inhabited it, and a 15-hectare wooded English-style park. The rose garden was created in 2003.
The park and rose garden are awarded the "Parks and Gardens" and "Remarkable Garden" labels, and one star in the Michelin Green Guide.
Since the 11th century, when the Lords of Rambures are first mentioned, their last fortress has stood in the heart of the Vimeu region, very close to the Norman border. The feudal motte is still visible just a stone's throw from the castle. Three fortified castles would stand on this site, and a single family would occupy the land for 1,000 years.
Construction of the current castle likely began in the 14th century and was completed in 1470, all against the backdrop of the Hundred Years' War.
The castle that can be visited today is a rare example of 15th-century military architecture, as it still retains the appearance intended by the military architects of its time.
The design of this unique place is attributed to David de Rambures, Grand Master of the Crossbowmen of France, the highest military position of the era, the "Lord Rambures" of Shakespeare's Henry V. An exceptional figure deserves an exceptional place, as this fortified castle, while still astonishing us today, would have astonished his contemporaries even more. Indeed, one of its great specificities is that it is the first French castle made of brick and stone, materials used to better withstand the artillery of its time.
