Description
A must-see site in Duclair. What to see and do at Château du Taillis:
The Château du Taillis , a must-see site, what to see, what to do:
A magnificent historical site, with impressive architecture and a rich past.
Located in a picturesque setting, this castle is distinguished by its central 16th-century building , enlarged in the 17th and 18th centuries .
It is one of the few Renaissance monuments in Normandy.
The Château du Taillis , as it stands today, presents a harmonious ensemble where the elegance of the Renaissance blends with the additions of subsequent centuries. You can admire its beautiful Regency drawing room , decorated with wood paneling depicting the four seasons , a testament to the refinement of the era.
In addition to its architecture, the castle also houses a museum retracing significant events in local history, notably the theme of "August 1944, Hell on the Seine." A truly enriching place of remembrance not to be missed during your visit.

Taillis Castle
In the shade of the Trait-Maulévrier forest, the Château du Taillis was built at the beginning of the 16th century on the foundations of a 13th-century fortified house, of which a superb vaulted cellar still remains. Four 18th-century salons, arranged in a suite, include a theater, a Chinese salon, and the crystal and porcelain salon. The central section of the château, in the style of the Italian Second Renaissance , is the only example in Seine-Maritime of this very distinctive architecture; it is decorated with Doric pilasters on the ground floor and Ionic pilasters on the first floor. Within its 16th-century walls, the park shelters three-hundred-year-old trees (giant sequoia, araucaria, tulip tree, Atlas cedar, purple beech, etc.) as well as remarkable outbuildings (stables, barn, greenhouse, etc.) and notably an orangery whose architectural style is that of a Greco-Roman temple.
