Chaumont-sur-Loire Castle - Cultural Visits

A must-see site in Chaumont-sur-Loire: what to see and do at the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire :

Owned in the 15th century by Queen Catherine de Medici, then by Diane de Poitiers, the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire has welcomed many famous figures throughout its history, such as Nostradamus, the sculptor Nini, Benjamin Franklin, and Germaine de Staël. At the end of the 19th century, it experienced a period of intense activity and festivities under the Princess de Broglie, the last private owner of the estate, who notably commissioned the construction of luxurious stables and the estate's model farm. Purchased by the State in 1938, the Château remained a national monument until 2007, when the Centre-Val de Loire Region acquired it. Since then, it has become the Domaine régional de Chaumont-sur-Loire, a must-see destination for art and garden enthusiasts. The estate's threefold identity—historical, artistic, and horticultural—makes it a unique site among the Loire Valley châteaux.

CHAUMONT SUR LOIRE

Dominating the Loire Valley from a strategic position, the château was rebuilt in the late 15th and early 16th centuries by the Amboise family.

Owned by Catherine de Medici in 1560, it later passed to her rival, Diane de Poitiers. At the end of the 19th century, the Princes of Broglie renovated the château and, in 1884, commissioned Henri Duchêne to design the beautiful landscaped park.
