Sightsee of Chateau Royal

decouvertes-chateaux-france Description

A must-see in Blois. What to see and do at the Royal Chateau of Blois

The Royal Château of Blois, a place of power and witness to the history of France, invites you to discover its different architectural periods and its central role in the French Renaissance.

The François I Wing, famous for its courtyard façade and monumental staircase, is one of the greatest architectural achievements of the French Renaissance. The façade's ornamentation, inspired by Italy, is characterized by a network of horizontal moldings and pilasters framing the windows. The polygonal staircase offers a striking contrast between the strength of its buttresses and the lightness of its loggias, allowing courtiers to observe the festivities and be observed themselves.

The Louis XII Wing displays Gothic influences while incorporating the principles of a new Italian-inspired lifestyle. The more open façade and the gallery with its sculpted candelabra pillars create a more airy aesthetic. The grand staircase, located in a square tower, is decorated with a sculpted panel depicting a crowned porcupine, an emblem chosen by Louis XII to symbolize the capacity for self-defense.

The King's and Queen's Chambers bear witness to the royal splendor of the era. These rooms are decorated with furniture and architectural elements characteristic of the period, offering a glimpse into daily life at the Royal French court.
