Our history

Nestled in the bucolic landscape of the Oise region, the village of Sommereux is home to one of the most important commanderies in northern France. Founded by the Knights Templar, it was transferred in 1312 to the Order of the Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, following the suppression of the Templar Order. This strategic location testifies to the region's importance in the network of major medieval communication routes.

The commandery still retains significant vestiges of its past, revealing the rigorous organization of these establishments with religious, military, and agricultural purposes. Nearby, the village church, a listed historical monument, stands like a jewel box of history. Dating primarily from the 12th and 13th centuries, it boasts a simple yet elegant architecture, typical of the Romanesque style in its transition to Gothic.

Between religious heritage and traces of the Templar epic, Sommereux appeals to medieval history enthusiasts as well as those curious to discover little-known places with preserved authenticity.
