Our history

Nowhere else in Béarn or the Basque Country does a place boast such a concentration of medieval fortifications. Philip III the Bold and Louis XI visited this site. The remaining vestiges—the fortified bridge, the ramparts, the castle, the fortified towers and houses, and the Church of Saint Andrew—make it an enchanting place. Beneath its walls lay the Kingdom of Navarre, the Duchy of Gascony (which belonged to the King of England), and Soule.
