Sassy Castle

Four tiers of terraces lead up to this imposing 18th-century château, built of stone and brick and nestled against the forest. Chancellor Pasquier, whose extensive library can be seen, purchased Sassy in 1850 for his adopted son, the Duke of Audiffret-Pasquier.

The estate boasts a remarkable formal French garden, surrounded by a moat. In addition to fine furnishings, visitors can admire various tapestries from Aubusson and the Gobelins Manufactory, and, in the chapel, a 15th-century altarpiece from Saint Bavo's Abbey in Ghent.
