Our history

A fortress located on the Historic Route of the Kings of England, a testament to early 13th-century military architecture. It controlled passage over the Sèvre Niortaise river as well as the routes between Niort and the Gâtine region and witnessed long struggles between John Lackland, King of England, and Philip Augustus, King of France, through the lords of Parthenay, its owners.
