Our history
Nestled in a valley in the heart of the Romanesque Conflent region, at the foot of Mount Canigou, the Abbey of Saint-Michel is an exceptional architectural ensemble. It comprises a large 10th-century pre-Romanesque church, a Romanesque-Lombard bell tower, a magnificent 11th-century crypt, and the remains of a 12th-century Romanesque cloister—the first sculpted cloister in Catalonia and the largest in the Pyrenees.
Home to Benedictine monks since 878, it is a place of faith, culture, hospitality, and peace.
