Cabrières Castle, Saint Jean du Gard

The residence of the Lords of Saint Jean, the castle, burned down by royal troops, was rebuilt in the 16th century and remodeled in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Illustrious figures stayed within its walls, such as Marshal de Thoiras, the Duke of Rohan, Basville (Intendant of Languedoc), the Count de Broglie, the Duke of Noailles, Marshal de Montrevel, Marshal de Villars, and many others.

A witness to the history of the Cévennes, the castle is linked to the Wars of Religion that marked this region from the 16th to the early 18th century.

A private property, the castle is inhabited and fully furnished with period pieces. The guided tour of 12 rooms, led by the owners, reveals, in addition to furniture primarily from the 16th, 18th, and Empire periods, numerous collections (paintings, jewelry, antique toys, etc.).
