Our history
In a remarkable setting, the château overlooks the Bertrande Valley, enclosed by the Cantal mountains. It originally included a 15th-century keep built by Robert de Balsac, chamberlain to the king and seneschal of Agenais and Gascony.
In the 17th century, the Lignerac family, future Dukes of Caylus, built a large main building which houses a remarkable collection of Aubusson tapestries. Since 1783, the current family has maintained this collection.
In addition to the Aubusson tapestries, one can admire Flemish tapestries (16th century), an altarpiece (17th century) in the chapel, the grand staircase, and the woodwork. All of these are listed historical monuments.
