Revel

Founded in 1342 by Philip VI of Valois, this original bastide town has retained its original character. The medieval town was designed around a central square. All the streets intersect at right angles, converging at its center where one discovers a vast market hall covered with pink tiles. The timber frame, with its centuries-old beams supported by a forest of pillars, is a true masterpiece of folk art. It is surmounted by a belfry which, for centuries, served as the town hall, complete with a watchtower, the Consuls' Hall, and a prison.
