Puylaurens

Puylaurens, the Occitan cradle of the republican Marianne, rises to an altitude of 375 meters, proudly overlooking the region. Its fortified castle and ramparts bear witness to a rich and turbulent history, marked by religious and political conflicts. In 1659, the town hosted the Protestant Academy of Montauban, of which only the gate remains today, a living reminder of this intellectual and religious past.

The old quarters — Cap-de-Castel, Coldonat and Foulimou — retain the authentic imprint of this era, with their narrow streets and ancient buildings, offering the visitor a plunge into the heart of Occitan and republican history.
