Marcevol Priory Foundation

The Priory was founded in the 12th century by the Canons of the Holy Sepulchre, the monastic order associated with the conquest of the Holy Land. The Romanesque church, with its three naves, is distinguished by its pink marble façade surmounted by a curious bell gable. The southern apse houses a 13th-century fresco depicting Christ Pantocrator surrounded by angels. For centuries a place of pilgrimage linked to the veneration of the Virgin Mary, the Priory of Marcevol benefits from its exceptional location facing Mount Canigou.
