Our history
In Beaugency, a castle for a museum, a museum for a castle.
The construction of this building was undertaken by the Bastard of Orléans, Count of Longueville and Dunois, in the second half of the 15th century. Built on the ruins of a medieval castle belonging to the Lords of Beaugency, it boasts a remarkable 15th-century timber frame. Its Caesar Tower, a square keep, overlooks the Loire River. The handsome Dunois lived there for seventeen years, beginning in 1440, before settling in Châteaudun. He was a loyal companion-in-arms of Joan of Arc.
It houses the Museum of Arts and Traditions of the Orléans region. The Château de Beaugency hosted King Louis VII the Younger, who had his marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine annulled in 1152. This annulment was one of the causes of the Hundred Years' War...
