Louis-Philippe Museum - Château d'Eu
Exceptional Chateaus & Castles
Our history
Built from 1578 by Catherine de Clèves and Henri de Guise , the Château d'Eu was enlarged in 1665 by La Grande Mademoiselle, niece of Louis XIII. It then became the summer residence of King Louis-Philippe , who notably hosted Queen Victoria there, marking a significant moment in Franco-British diplomatic history.
In the 19th century, the Count of Paris called upon Viollet-le-Duc to modernize the entire estate, blending historical heritage with architectural innovations.
Today, the museum at the Château d'Eu brings this rich royal past back to life by displaying furniture, paintings, porcelain, goldsmithing and precious objects that once adorned the salons of this last royal castle in France .
