Our history

Morlaàs, capital of Béarn from 1080 to 1260, a stop on the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, holder of the famous "Fors" (charters), was renowned for its coinage and furnishings.

From this past, it retains the Church of Sainte-Foy, built as early as 1080.
Although restored, this monument boasts a magnificent Romanesque portal depicting Saint John's vision of the Apocalypse.

Inside the church, in the choir, capitals evoke the life of the Saint and the "Piton de Jaca" (Peak of Jaca), a motif found only on pilgrimage routes.

Famous figures resided in Morlaàs, such as Centulle V, the first builder of Sainte-Foy, his son Gaston IV the Crusader who went to war in the Holy Land, and even Gaston Fébus, who used its strategic location as a stronghold.
