Montmaur Castle

Located at the gateway to the Gap region, in the Buëch area, the construction of the Château began in the 14th century, and its development and decoration spanned four centuries. Inside, the grand state rooms have retained their French-style ceilings with monumental gypsum fireplaces, intricately carved doors, and painted decorations, the oldest of which date back to the Renaissance. Noble families succeeded one another until the French Revolution, after which illustrious private owners maintained and embellished the property. This unique example of Hautes-Alpes heritage also became a stronghold of the Resistance during the Second World War. Classified as a Historic Monument, the Château has maintained its tradition of welcoming visitors, blending heritage and the arts, particularly since 2006, when the Hautes-Alpes Department acquired the estate.
