Our history
The only Malouinière (country house) located on the left bank of the Rance River, built in 1760 by Aaron Magon, Lord of Bosq, Montmarin overlooks a body of water over a kilometer wide. Access to Montmarin is through a courtyard, at the center of which lies a beautiful Carrara marble basin . The courtyard façade, understated and classical, contrasts with the elegant Louis XV-style main façade, featuring a central pavilion and two end pavilions with roofs shaped like the hulls of inverted boats. The 6-hectare park , celebrated by Madame de Genlis and Chateaubriand, slopes down to the Rance River in four successive terraces. A listed Historic Monument, it comprises two sections: the French formal garden, whose design has remained virtually unchanged since the 18th century, and the English landscape garden, created around 1885, with its expansive lawns, groves, rockeries, and flowerbeds. Its botanical collection grows richer year after year. The nursery offers the park's specialties.
