Our history
Built for Alexandre Dumas in 1846 , the château is nestled within a romantic English-style park, complete with grottoes, rockeries, and waterfalls. Saved from destruction and fully restored, the estate is, as its author described it, "a miniature Paradise on Earth." Floral bouquets, medallions, and fantastical animals adorn the façades. Inside, the Moorish salon transports visitors to the atmosphere of the Arabian Nights. An entire literary universe unfolds within the Château d'If, the writer's study: here, Edmond Dantès discovers his treasure; there, the Duke of Guise from "Henri III" appears in a turret. No one can resist the charm of a place where the extravagance and generosity of Dumas's spirit are still present today.
