The Bamboo Grove in the Cévennes
Exceptional Chateaus & Castles
Our history
Eugène Mazel , passionate about horticulture and natural sciences, began his first plantings at the Bambouseraie in the Cévennes in 1856. There, he acclimatized exotic species from China, Japan, North America, and the Himalayas. The Bambouseraie in the Cévennes is a true botanical gem nestled at the gateway to the Cévennes National Park, in Anduze. Unique in Europe and listed as a Historical Monument, this exceptional exotic park covers more than 30 hectares and invites visitors on a timeless sensory journey into the heart of a lush and exotic plant world, within a forest of giant bamboo and numerous other plant curiosities. Today, the Bambouseraie is home to an impressive forest of giant bamboo , some reaching over 25 meters in height, forming a striking green cathedral. But the park is not limited to this spectacular bamboo grove: it also features a Japanese garden , a plant maze, tropical greenhouses, a rare collection of maples and camellias , as well as areas dedicated to aquatic plants and species from around the world. A place for strolling, contemplation, and discovering biodiversity, the Bamboo Grove in the Cévennes captivates visitors of all ages with its rich landscapes, the serenity that emanates from it, and the many nature-based activities offered. An unforgettable immersion in an enchanting plant world.
