Château de la Haute Guerche
Exceptional Chateaus & Castles
Our history
Near the Loire Valley, southwest of Angers, the Château de la Haute-Guerche is a 13th- and 15th-century military fortress that once guarded the Layon Valley. Its fortified walls enclose both the upper and lower courtyards. Burned down during the Vendée Wars, the château lies in ruins. The spared granary serves as a dwelling, and the chapel as a studio. The romantic charm of the place is conducive to artistic gatherings. Drawing, painting, and sculpture workshops are offered year-round.
