Our history
It was in 1844, a few months after his son's first nervous breakdown, that Dr. Flaubert bought Croisset, then a residential area favored by Rouen's bourgeoisie.
The house was sold by his niece after the writer's death; only the Louis XIII pavilion at the far end of the park remained. Repurchased by the Friends of Flaubert in 1905, it was donated to the city of Rouen in 1906. Gathered here are familiar items from 30 years of his life: a paper knife bearing his monogram, a toadstool inkwell, goose quills, a Buddha statue, one of the famous parrots, and various mementos of the unforgettable author of Madame Bovary, Solomon, The Temptation of Saint Anthony, and Bouvard and Pécuchet.
