Château de La Gataudière

A jewel of the Saintonge region, pure 18th century , built by François Fresneau, Lord of La Gataudière (the father of rubber). Here you will discover his descendants, the Marquis de Chasseloup Laubat, the chief engineer of Napoleon I's Grande Armée, and the Minister of the Navy and Colonies under Napoleon III. The historian, explorer, and contemporary figure, along with their ancestry, connects them to the Bonaparte imperial family and the King of Naples, His Highness Prince Murat. The magnificent reception room features sculpted stone, a wood-paneled dining room, a drawing room upholstered in period brocade, vaulted galleries of stone and marble, and Louis XIII, Regency, and Louis XV furnishings.
