Gaillon Castle

The Château de Gaillon, perched on a hill overlooking the Seine valley, occupies a strategic position between the royal domain and Normandy. This medieval fortress, given in 1262 by Saint Louis to the Archbishop of Rouen, blends military history and ecclesiastical prestige.
Although badly damaged during the French Revolution and throughout the 19th century, the castle remains a valuable testament to the French fascination with Italy during the Renaissance, particularly through its architecture and decorations inspired by the Italian style.
