Gaillac

Gaillac, a city with a thousand-year history, allows visitors to step back in time. It was primarily from the 10th century onwards that the town developed on the right bank of the Tarn River, around the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Michel . The Church of Saint-Michel, built during this period, suffered the ravages of the Wars of Religion, but remains a magnificent architectural gem. Gaillac was at the heart of the cultivation and trade of pastel (woad) , but it is above all the vineyards that are the driving force of its economic activity.
