Fénelon Castle
Exceptional Chateaus & Castles
Our history
Located in the Dordogne Valley, between Sarlat and Souillac, in a protected landscape overlooking the village, Fénelon is one of the most beautiful castles in the Périgord Noir region.
It has the appearance of a fortress, pleasantly blending the warlike character of the Middle Ages with Renaissance aesthetics. It remains as it was then, with its triple enclosure. It was the birthplace of the great Fénelon (1651-1715), Archbishop of Cambrai and author of the famous "Telemachus."
Built on a series of rocky terraces, it has retained its entire defensive system.
It is one of the few monuments in the Sarlat region to still have a slate roof.
You can admire a fine collection of arms and armor, as well as beautiful furniture and objets d'art from the 15th to the 18th centuries.
