Our history

A testament to both the art of building and the art of living, the Château d'Etxauz (11th and 16th centuries), nestled in a verdant setting dotted with ancient trees, overlooks the village of Saint-Étienne-de-Baïgorry. It belonged, among others, to Bertrand d'Etxauz, Grand Almoner of France and confidant of Louis XIII, and illustrious figures such as Marshal of France Harispe, Pierre Loti, and Charlie Chaplin were among its guests. A magnificent armory and medieval staircase, as well as extraordinary attics, make it an architectural gem that you will discover with great enthusiasm.
