Church of Corneilla-de-Conflant
Exceptional Chateaus & Castles
Our history
Corneilla-de-Conflent, the former residence of the Counts of Cerdagne , is home to a remarkable church, reflecting the proximity of these powerful lords. The building is distinguished by an early Romanesque bell tower dating from the 11th century , but above all by a 12th-century façade and apse , built of large blocks and magnificently sculpted.
Formerly a collegiate church, it preserves an exceptional collection of liturgical furnishings : 13th-century stalls , three Romanesque Virgins , a 14th-century liturgical cabinet and an alabaster altarpiece made in 1346 by the great Catalan sculptor Jaume Cascalls .
A masterpiece of Catalan Romanesque art not to be missed in the heart of the Conflent.
