Exceptional Chateaus & Castles

Our history

Built in 1373 by Gaston Fébus's half-brother, this brick fortress has undergone an exemplary restoration. Raymond Ritter, a scholar with a passion for history, literature, and art, and his wife, Hélène, recreated the original architecture. The castle appears to have survived, untouched, the six centuries of its history. It now houses a rich collection of furniture and objets d'art, as well as paintings by masters (Canaletto, Fragonard, etc.). From its lofty perch, it overlooks the village, a harmonious blend of ochre and red, whose main street, lined with old 17th- and 18th-century houses, connects it to the secular abbey and the 14th-century fortified church.

The castle is closed for renovations throughout 2003; only the grounds are open for visits or scheduled events.
