Chevannes-Saint Racho Castle

Nestled in the heart of a densely wooded valley, in a protected mountain area within the Brionnais region – this southern jewel of Burgundy – the Château de Chevannes-Saint-Racho presents a silhouette imbued with serenity and nobility. Listed as a Historic Monument ( ISMH - Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments) and protected as a Historic Monument (PH) , it embodies an exceptional architectural heritage.

Built between the 12th and 16th centuries , the castle retains the marks of a long history, spanning from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.

The main building features Gothic windows with mullions and transoms. The dormer windows date from the 17th century. The left wing houses outbuildings. The right wing consists of a gallery enclosed by a wooden balustrade and supported by a single octagonal pier crowned with a capital decorated with plant motifs. The entire complex was restored by the Marquis and Marquise de Noblet in the 1970s. Its walls of pale stone, its understated towers, and its setting in a verdant landscape lend the property a bucolic charm and a rare authenticity. The site offers a preserved natural setting, conducive to contemplation and the discovery of a typically Burgundian rural and aristocratic heritage. Far from the overcrowded tourist routes, Chevannes-Saint-Racho remains a secluded place , rich in character, where local history is evident in the architectural details as much as in the peaceful atmosphere that prevails.
