Our history

In May 1905, Matisse and Derain discovered Collioure. From this encounter, Fauvism was born. During their walks, the two painters captured the village's profile, the bell tower, the castle, the drying fishing nets, the departing boats, the women mending... and the windows. A living museum was created in the streets of Collioure, featuring 20 paintings by Matisse and Derain.
