Château Lafayette

In Haute-Loire, in the heart of the Auvergne region, the Château de Chavaniac-Lafayette is the birthplace of the famous Marquis de Lafayette , born on September 6, 1757. Its walls tell the story of Gilbert Motier de Lafayette's life: his happy childhood in Chavaniac, his marriage to Adrienne de Noailles. Built in the 14th century, this dark stone manor house, typical of the Velay region, has been transformed over the centuries while retaining its original character. Surrounded by formal French gardens, it now houses a museum dedicated to the life and legacy of Lafayette, illustrated by period objects, portraits, and documents. A small, reconstructed 18th-century theater shows a film in which Adrienne de Noailles recounts General Lafayette's American epic and his struggle to liberate the people of the New World from the yoke of England. A place of remembrance steeped in history and inspiration, at the crossroads of two continents.
