Themis Solar Innovation

Built and operated from 1979 to 1986 , Thémis is recognized as the world's first solar tower power plant . Following its initial phase, the site served as a research area between 1986 and 2004 for astrophysicists specializing in the observation of cosmic gamma rays. Shut down in 2004, the site was taken over by the Regional and Departmental authorities, who undertook significant rehabilitation work. Since then, the solar tower power plant has been reopened to the public, now serving a dual purpose: historical and educational.

The site is open to the public: • during the summer school holidays (every day) and other school holidays (excluding weekends and public holidays) – Opening hours: 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 17:30 (reception and indoors) and 10:00 to 17:30 (outdoors) • during specific events (Nature Festival, European Heritage Days, etc.) – Specific opening hours: details below in the “2025 events” section • outside these periods (excluding weekends and public holidays), by reservation, for groups of 15 or more – Opening hours: 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 17:30 (reception and indoors) and 10:00 to 17:30 (outdoors)

Several activities are offered:

• Free and open access (exhibition, belvedere path)

• Self-guided workshop (FabLab solar constructions, games and coloring)

• Paid activities (guided tours, Didacsol model, etc.)
