Our history
Dominating a charming village, the Château de Bidache stands majestically. This residence of the Gramont family, sovereign princes of Bidache, was built between 1274 and 1329, then burned down by the Prince of Orange in the 16th century. The fortress was subsequently transformed into a sumptuous palace.
It was here that Mazarin was received in July 1659, during the preliminary negotiations for the Treaty of the Pyrenees. Pillaged during the French Revolution, then used as a military hospital, the building was finally destroyed by fire in 1796.
The inner courtyard of the Château de Bidache, now in ruins, houses a birds of prey aviary.
