Our history
The Château de Beauvais is famous not only for its architecture, but above all for the strange mystery that unfolded there at the beginning of the 19th century. On the night of September 23, 1800 , its owner, Clément de Ris , a senator of the Empire, was abducted under mysterious circumstances. Held captive for 19 days , his fate has given rise to an enigma that still fuels many questions.
This extraordinary event inspired the famous writer Honoré de Balzac , who used it as a backdrop for his novel "Une ténébreuse affaire" , mixing suspense, politics and mysterious intrigues under the Consulate.
Today, the Château de Beauvais remains a place steeped in history where one can feel the weight of this enigmatic drama, which continues to fascinate visitors and lovers of mysterious historical tales.
