Ardouin Museum - Bastide de Mazères

The Old Mazères Museum is housed in a former pastel merchant's mansion: the Hôtel d'Ardouin, a 16th-century building . This listed monument has recently undergone a complete restoration. Built of brick, it features beautiful, finely crafted mullioned windows. Pastel, the dye plant that brought wealth to the Lauragais region, is discussed during the visit. In the vaulted cellars, a room is dedicated to the earliest history of Mazères: from Neolithic artifacts to the remains of the prestigious Boulbonne Abbey, not forgetting the Merovingian necropolis. The visit concludes with a room devoted to temporary exhibitions.
