Our history
The Château d'Arques-la-Bataille is perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Scie Valley in Normandy.
Built in the 11th century by the uncle of William the Conqueror, the Château d'Arques-la-Bataille has retained its characteristic features: its square keep, its drawbridge, and its moat.
Rebuilt in the 15th century by Jean de Marigny, it testifies to the advanced defensive techniques of its time, with its imposing walls, round towers, and massive keep. Resisting assaults and the ravages of time,
In 1589, Henry IV took refuge there and won a battle during the Wars of Religion.
Since then, the village has been called Arques-la-Bataille.
