Arcangues Castle

Arcangues Castle is located eight kilometers from Biarritz and the Atlantic coast, and twenty-five kilometers from the Spanish border. In 1150, the lord of Arcangues and Curutcheta built his residence and gave his name to the land. Since the 12th century, the Arcangues family has resided on the same site, from father to son , to the present day; a very rare and undoubtedly exceptional occurrence in the history of French noble families. The current Arcangues Castle is the fourth and was rebuilt in 1900 on the exact same site. The original castle dated from the first half of the 17th century and had itself been rebuilt after a fire in 1636 by the Spanish during the Thirty Years' War. From this period, its Gobelins and Aubusson tapestries, furniture, silverware, works of art, and the immense library have been preserved.
