Bazoches Castle

Bazoches Castle

Bazoches du Morvan

Perched halfway up a wooded hill on the site of a former Roman outpost at the gateway to the Morvan region, with a direct view of Vézelay (10 km away), the feudal castle of Bazoches, built in the 12th century, features a trapezoidal architecture comprised of four towers and a keep surrounding an inner courtyard.

Bazoches was acquired in 1675 by Marshal Vauban thanks to a reward granted to him by King Louis XIV following the siege of Maastricht. Upon his arrival at Bazoches, Vauban undertook numerous improvements and transformed it into a military garrison. It was, in fact, in the castle's grand gallery that Vauban, the founder of the Corps of Engineers, carried out a significant portion of the studies and plans for nearly three hundred fortifications and strongholds. This fully furnished château is truly exceptional: Vauban's furniture (bedroom, armor, libraries, etc.), 17th-century decorations adorning the four façades of the inner courtyard, and four immense family trees, including Vauban's own, comprising nearly a thousand Limoges porcelain coats of arms, painted and fired in a kiln.

The gardens were created according to a design by Le Nôtre, commissioned by his friend Vauban.

A prestigious reception venue: host your guests for an afternoon or evening at the Château de Bazoches and create unforgettable memories: cocktails, lunch, or dinner in the salons or the grand gallery, access via the parterres and the main staircase, and the château illuminated with beautiful lighting.
